Abstract

The implementation of systematic surveys in the southern area of the provinces of Córdoba and San Luis, as well as in northern La Pampa, was designed within a project whose objective is to answer a series of questions (e.g., subsistence, use of landscape, technologies used by the hunter? gatherers). This area corresponds phytogeographically (in a great extent of its central portion) to the Caldenar district, within the phytogeographical province of Espinal. The typical flora of the pastures of Humid Pampas can be observed on a wide band located in the east of the area, shaping thus a mixed vegetation of the ecotone between Dry Pampas and Humid Pampas. The surveys were focused to obtain a large body of information that could help to specify recognition and excavation strategies of archaeological sites as well as to improve the knowledge on the relationship between the native groups and their environment. Basically, at this stage, the aim was to obtain an outlook of the archaeological regional record structure, emphasizing on the use and possible sources of lithic raw materials. Some of the preliminary results on the approaching guidelines to the record mentioned above are part of this communication.
