Abstract

We present the archaeological data recovered from an area of 25 km2 located in the southeast of General Lavalle County, in the coastal wetlands of the Samborombón Bay. It is an area of a very low archaeological visibility, with a vegetation of grasslands and tala forest, from where there is no prior archeological field information. The sampling area was selected after the analysis of cartographic, satellite, geological and soil data which was used to develop a geological and geomorphological sketch of the area. A predictive model of potential eligible points for human occupation made for the present counties of General Lavalle and de la Costa, formulated on the basis of the combination of environmental and biological variables, was also applied. Archaeological materials product of hunter-gatherers occupations and ceramics of corrugated tradition were recovered in five points. It was also registered a rectangular structure of 120 x 65 m, probably a corral from historic times. Cultural materials are similar to other nearby sites presenting similar tendencies. Contrasting with the density proposed in the predictive model about the intensity of use of this space, suggests a better consistency with the distribution of winter settlements.
