Abstract

The aim of this work was to evaluate the bioavailability of certain potentially toxic elements (PTE) in soils near a rectified section of Morón creek. Soil sampling of the floodplain of the river and the adjacent artificial dam was carried out. The potentially toxic elements (PTE) Cu, Zn, Cr, Ni, Cd and Pb were analyzed through a sequential fractionation scheme; additionally, pH and electrical conductivity (EC) of the samples were measured. At both sites, the analyzed elements were mostly associated to the carbonate-bound fraction, indicating low availability. In the floodplain, we found low total values of Cu and Zn, while the concentrations of Cd, Cr, Ni, and Pb were higher with respect to the samples from the damarea. These differences were attributed to changes in the concentration of PTE in the water body stemming from the rectification of the stream.
