Abstract

We studied the high-energy batch dry grinding on arids from the Santa Cruz River, Argentina. The goal of applying high-energy grinding onto this rock is to achieve a suitable ceramic conformation with a regular clay, avoiding the use of other commercial ingredients such as quartz and feldspars. We performed a study of grinding kinetics based on Kelsall?s complete destructive model, focusing on its asymptotic aspects, particularly its long-time behaviour; i.e., longer than 30 minutes with prevalence of the attrition mechanism. We established that adequate scale-up parameters are located between 50 and 60 minutes of grinding, when granulometric distributions of 27 and 35 % in weight lesser than 2µm diameter are achieved.
