Abstract

This paper constitutes an approacbing to theethnomedicine in the departments of Iruya and Santa Victoria (Salta, Argentina). The methodology is used from an etbnobotanical point ofview and it i5a contribution to tbe scopeofbiocultural ecology. Resultsare refened under ascientificaod etlmollcienlificpointofvicw. Notions of health, illness and adaptation in the studied area are discussed. 66 taxa considered medicine by the native informants are named The oative ootions about kinds of illness, ils origin and medical. practice are considered acording to the proposed methodology a suitable kind of explanation is settled, sbowing the resemblance and difference between thc studioo arca and the wntext of Northwesrern region of Argentina witb regard to popular medicine.
