Abstract

On July 27, Benjamin Lincoln Robinson, one of the most eminent American botanists of our time, died at the age of 71. His death surprised him at his country house in Jaffrey, New Hampshire, where a long illness had confined him.Robinson was born in Bloomington, Illinois, on November 8, 1864. He studied for a time at Williams College, later going to Harvard, where he received his bachelor of arts degree in 1887. His doctor of philosophy degree was obtained at the University of Strassbourg, Germany, in 1889, and returning to the United States in 1890, he was appointed assistant at the Gray Herbarium of Harvard University.
